I couldn’t find a good way to display disc golf collectables… so I made one. (The Disc Hive)
I’ve always thought most disc display options were kinda meh.
The little wall hangers always felt sketchy (like they’d fall off eventually), and I wasn’t a fan of hanging a disc on a nail or anything that could mess with the rim. Shadowboxes work, but they’re not really made for discs with all that extra space around it.
So I ended up making something for myself.
It’s a hex-shaped display case I’ve been calling The Disc Hive. It’s a two-piece frame with magnets that fully encloses the disc, so there’s no chance of it slipping or getting knocked off the wall. You can mount it with a screw, use command strips, or just set it on a shelf.
The hex shape lets you stack them into a wall layout, which was the original idea. I also made a little spacer so lining multiple up doesn’t turn into a measuring project.
It can also be used for more than just discs. I’ve been messing around with inserts so you can display patches and pins too, which turned out pretty cool.
Another big thing for me was making it customizable. I’m doing versions in PLA and hard wood, with a bunch of different color and finish options, so it can actually match whatever space you’re putting it in instead of looking like a random frame.
I know there are cheaper, mass-produced options out there, and this isn’t really trying to compete with those. This is something I designed and make myself, start to finish, so it’s more about having something that actually fits discs well and looks good on the wall.
Been using it for a couple dyed discs and my ace disc and it’s honestly just nice having them out instead of sitting in a pile.
