How to learn Chinese without depending on textbooks?

The title basically explains it.

I started learning Chinese for about 5 months now but textbooks most of the time are too inefficient.

I'm also aiming for fluency, but I want to find a better way to memorize the language while using a natural vocabulary rather than "textbook language"

From what I've seen, many beginners (like me) sometimes develop a robotic way of speaking involuntarily.

That might be because tones in most textbooks and HSK materials are exaggerated due to the fact that the speech is often slower to make students really understand what's going on.

I highly recommend watching this person's videos about tones, there are about 3. They explain everything in detail, about stressed and unstressed words, and when to use them.
