Skill ceiling and the new player experience.
So there was some discussion on the relation of the MOBA to Hero Shooter aspects in the game and which weighs more. From the Hero Shooter crowd there has been concern for the new player experience and having a high skill ceiling which already exists now only getting worse with release and there being such a disconnect it will scare of a huge part of a possible community.
Ive seen people claim this game is more a hero shooter than a MOBA and they want to lower the skill floor so more casuals can play the game. I dont understand this complaint at all.
For me Deadlock is the perfect mix of these aspects and I love how it is like a Third Person Dota2 at heart. Its everything I didnt even know I wanted. I really really dont want the Devs to tone down any of the mechanics. Its what makes the game so fun to me. Last hitting, Box running, the movement system alone has an insane skill ceiling and for me its so fun how you can learn endlessly.
Guys, you dont have to learn all the sweaty stuff. Thats why we have SKILL BASED MATCHMAKING!!!! You can just stay at your level and play with other players that are just on the level that you are!! Thats what the system is foor. New Players wont be paired with some E6 demon zooming around the map.
And I think Valve knows that this game also has a casual appeal. Look at streetbrawl. They introduced a purely casual mode so early in the game. The incredible hero design draws people in from hero shooters and they can just have fun in street brawl. Its kinda like in Overwatch where you have really sweaty gameplay at T500 and a huge part of the playerbase never touches ranks and only plays casual.
