I’m a Dutch creator currently living in Shenzhen. My mission is to document the raw reality of China—covering tech, politics, and local life—from a perspective that is as objective, neutral, and realistic as possible.
I had a 'dream start' where my first two videos hit 13k and 15k views. However, since I posted a video discussing the Taiwan situation, my reach has completely collapsed. My last two videos are struggling to even hit 300 views.
I’m starting to wonder if my content has become 'too political' for the algorithm, leading YouTube to limit my impressions. I’d love some honest feedback from this community.
My questions:
- Based on your experience, does YouTube 'throttle' channels that tackle sensitive geopolitical topics like Taiwan, or is it more likely a drop in audience interest/retention? How can I get the algorithm to push my content again?
- Do my titles and thumbnails look clickable and professional enough to compete in the China niche, or do they look like 'low-effort' political commentary?
- I’m looking for a reality check on the videos themselves. What can I do to improve the pacing or value? I’ve asked my early commenters for feedback, but out of 100 people, only 2 responded. I need to know what’s not working.
- Is mixing Tech, Food, and Politics on one 'China' channel a mistake? Should I pick one and stick to it to stay in the algorithm's favor?
Looking forward to your advice!
p.s. I'm not sure if I am allowed to post my channel's link, so I will do when I know it is allowed.
