I finally broke down and paid for the Plus tier, and ironically enough, I have spent the last week hovering over the button to upgrade to the Pro tier. Well, that is completely dead in the water now. Taking away the dedicated screenshot button in the app is a massive UX regression. And no, pushing Gemini Live as the new way to do this is completely tone-deaf to how people actually use the app. If I want a quick, static screen grab to analyze an article, I don't want to open a live video feed. Taking away a scalpel and offering me a chainsaw because "it still cuts" is ridiculous. But here is the absolute kicker I just realized. By killing the screenshot tool and forcing me to use the Live screen sharing option, you are literally forcing me to use the voice model. Voice models, from my daily experience with things like Copilot at work, are a massive downgrade from the text models. They are untrained, completely unready for live consumption, and honestly just stupid compared to the text interface. Going from the text model to the voice model is literally the difference between talking to an intellectual adult and a babbling toddler. So not only did you take away my number one feature, but you are actively routing me to an inferior, frustrating model that I cannot stand. I work in enterprise IT for a Forbes 500 five star resort. If my team ripped out a core, heavily used feature overnight without a phased approach and forced our users onto a tool they actively hated, the floor would grind to a halt. Our users would lose their minds. And you know what we would do? We would roll it back without question, because in the real world, you respect the workflow. But Google seems to operate on pure arrogance. You treat paying users like beta testers, stripping away perfectly functional tools just to force engagement metrics on your shiny new features. It is the classic Google Graveyard mentality where some PM needs a promotion, collateral damage be damned. So, good job to the engineering and product teams. You had a user with their wallet open, ready to hand you more money for your top tier, and you managed to actively talk me out of it by breaking your own app and forcing an inferior model on me. Now I am just contemplating canceling my Plus subscription entirely. Listen to your users, swallow your pride, and put the button back.
