I’m an international student(TF, mid 20’s) considering leaving my university, because I feel it is becoming clear that the University administration don’t want me to study here.
As anyone who has had the extremely dubious pleasure of knowing me on this site (thank you sincerely for putting up with me) will know, I already feel that coming to the UK was a mistake (I decided to do so before Hough and other politicians came out full force against us, and before coming out to myself). However, I have previously felt generally that the University was supportive(Staff, Students and Teachers have been very, very, supportive).
However, I recently learnt that a sports club at the uni changed their rules to be very transexclusive. My problem is not specifically with the sports org, rather the opposite, because their members and leaders seem inclusive and fight it as best they can. My problem is with the main administration who are pushing extremely hard for these rules. I know bigger Universities like Cambridge had a similar deal, but was hoping that smaller unis would be less affected. (Yes, I am a moron, and feel free to call me that!)
While I am not a member of the club(and haven’t legally changed my gender), I am a student at this University, and it feels wrong to be part of a university that so clearly doesn’t want to protect transgender people. I would like to fight this, and will do so, if only because I believe it is right, but I know that this is a losing battle (this is the UK, no protest can change the hearts of the powerful, ‘cause they ain’t got ‘em hearts!) I also feel I have a good chance of going elsewhere. I am looking at studying at home, or in France, Ireland, or Eastern Europe etc etc, so I have plenty of options.
I have some elected responsibilities I need to fulfil, so quitting would only be feasibile a few months before I am scheduled to graduate. I am just wondering if beginning the process of leaving(which can be very long) already is a crappy idea?
