hope my tone did not come off harsh in the title, because i actually adore all four of them, and the four of them being "a group" led to all sorts of hilarious works of art being created. my question comes from how these four ended up being called "the meme squad" in the first place, as all four of them have almost nothing in common:
- all four come from different companies
- all four share very little thematically (besides two having a withered/bandaged appearance, although different in execution)
- all four are VASTLY different in popularity
- their release dates cover a period of 6 years
- three had exactly one release in vocaloid, one was ported to numerous other vocalsynth programs
- two are exclusively japanese, one is bilingual, one is exclusively english
- two are partially based on real people, the other two are completely anonymous
but the fandom ended up putting these four together, and we just sorta accepted it as community lore. characters "with nothing in common" is a trope, but in those cases, the characters are made up for the purpose usually by one person or creative board. the internet has come up with (and fanonized) even more unusual character groupings in the past, but this one peaks my interest the most.
do these four have a single "debut" production? were they always the four, or were members added on from a duo or trio? was there a single insane mastermind who decided to put them together, or was this a coordinated effort? however it happened, i am here for it.
and len is sometimes there as the fifth, but he is already part of crypton.
