Looking for a medical cert, but not wanting to train as a doctor...
Backstory -
3+ years ago a member of my family developed a condition with multiple complications and as a family we have had MANY A&E trips, mostly low stress but requiring quick intervention, but 2-3 standouts are the most traumatic and scary days of my life.
Reflecting on them, what made them scary was the uncertainty and (sorry overworked NHS) the lack of people to hold a hand and talk us through what was going on. I will never forget the drop in stress when the amazing Doc looking after us (most relaxed man on earth) showed me a very basic check i could do every 20-30 mins to make sure nothing had deteriorated and to call him if anything changed. in hindsight it may have been something to distract me, but nevertheless the effect was real.
i have a full time career in tech that pays better than most early/mid career doctor roles, and a family i need to support, so im not retraining or anything like that. BUT i would love to be able to give to other people what that doc did for me, to be an extra set of (albeit unqualified) eyes and eyes and sit with people who are scared.
the second part i can do, but i lack the 10-15 years of theory and practice that instils the dozens of things to be aware of, ticks that suggest a seizure is coming, changes in vitals that mean a review should take place etc.
I think what im mentally picturing is "2nd responders assistant", i dont want to study pharmacology, i dont want to learn every bones name, and i dont want to be patching people up, i just want to make that stressful and disorientating time better for some people, and back that up with some practical working knowledge thats going to help the staff too.
SO - what can i do? are there courses that arent basic first aid or first responder targeted?
