(NC) Landlord is saying heater is my problem to fix.
I live in NC and I've rented this place for right over a year now. I have a K1 kerosene heater that was in the home before I moved in and it's had to have some maintenance in the past that I was held liable for. Now it is pumping kerosene into the air any time it is used, which is frequently right now as it's been in the 50's/60's for a week now. It's to the point that it's making myself and my child nauseous and it has to be completely unplugged and we just have to layer up under blankets. I told my landlord this over a month ago, told her she needed to have someone come to look at it but she won't and I cannot afford to. I tried to call code enforcement and they said they don't regulate rentals which sounds stupid to me but okay. What are my options? I can't really afford to get a lawyer right now, I'm a single low income mom, is there any other avenue or do I just suck it up and be cold?
