53yo wm--desperately need to leave the bible belt. Chambana and Chicago good options??

Hi, all,

Congrats on the recent athletic success around the state! Bielema really cranking up Illinois. Heard it's harder to get tickets. Cubs kicking ass. Ten game win streak! Just beat the shit out of the Rangers. Also, the Bears are trending up. Way up. Way better than my Gators and Bucs lol. Women's athletics are improving as well. But, we'll always have the Donovan/Zook connection. We are practically brothers and sisters!! /s

I'm a 53yo white dude, former English/GED teacher, now a hospital security officer thinking about moving to Chambana/Chicago. I searched for several threads about moving to Chambana--most posts involve subleasing apartments.

Atheist. Liberal.

How's the overall vibe up there? I wouldn't mind the cold.

How's the dating scene? Lived in the bible belt my whole life (Florida, Texas, now Mobile, AL). Rough place for atheists and non-Bama/Auburn folks. Dating scene is non-existent for 50+ men down here. Women want men who are biblical providers, christian, all that. Vast majority are already married. Long checklists. To give you some insight into the culture, almost ALL the women carry guns. And they know how to use them. Most taught by their fathers when very young. Big time. Nothing wrong with that at all--you've got to protect yourself, but it provides some insight into Alabama culture. I carry a gun and know how to use it for work, but that's it.

I will date any ethnicity, color, creed, nationality, or any combination thereof. I look at the whole person. Alabama isn't very diverse. All black and white. I've lived here since 2020, and I can count on one hand the amount of Indians I've seen--two hands for Asians and those from the Middle East. And about two fingers the number of mixed race couples. And only a handful of Latinos.

Black women tend not to date white men in AL. Not sure why. I've asked a few black women out and been turned down.

Also, despite living in the South my entire life, I had never heard of the term "sundown town" until I moved to Alabama at age 47. But, that term is a relic of the past, thankfully. You usually hear it in conversation like, "_______ lives in ______. Back in the day, that was a sundown town."

Church is the center of everything. Everything. Even those who don't go to church 😉

There are good people here.

I'm also looking at Chicago: Rogers Park, Edgewater, Lincoln Square, Andersonville, possibly Ravenswood. I may go back into teaching GED and POSSIBLY a public alternative school. Anyhoo, any info appreciated! Good luck this season!

Hi, all,

Congrats on the natty. I'm a 53yo white guy, former teacher, now security officer thinking about moving to Bloomington. I searched for several threads about moving to Bloomington. I found answers from years ago. Anyhoo, my mother is from Cloverdale (over by Greencastle). Know that's pretty far. Atheist. Liberal. Looking for a place with a good vibe. How's the dating scene? Lived in the bible belt my whole life. Now in Mobile, AL. Rough place for atheists and non-Bama/Auburn folks. I wouldn't mind the cold. Rough being a guy down here. Women want men who are biblical providers, christian, all that. Long ckecklists. I'm also looking at some other places in the midwest and west. Iowa City, Ames, Kalamazoo, Champaign-Urbana, and out west in Pullman. Any info appreciated!
