I’ve read that this model marks the end of a cycle and that the real improvements won’t arrive until next year.

It seems to be just a transitional model: it has few new features, and the design is almost identical to the previous one. I say this because most current watches are already making the switch to silicon-carbon batteries to drastically increase their battery life. What do you think?
