I just saw a short about someone talking about the James Gunn DC movies, and in that he pronounces "Suicide Squad" like "Sewer Slide Squad" and not only does he clearly and intentionally pronounce it that way, but the subtitles even had it spelled this way. Every single comment on the video was ripping on the mistake, but it is so clearly intentional and it is also the only reason people watched this short more than once and commented on it. This is not the first short I've seen that employs this strategy with the same effect, and wont be the last I see of it. As a small creator, grammar n*zi, and local spelling bee champion, with OCD. This is one of my ABSOLUTE BIGGEST pet-peeves. Literally makes me want to scream out toward the sky and pull my hair out.
When I make shorts, I painstakingly go over every word and subtitle and make sure the grammar and spelling is perfect, at this point it feels like it's working to my detriment.
I refuse to employ this strategy myself for two reasons: 1. Looking stupid and 2. Dishonesty.
I would say "Let's all agree to start calling this crap out." but those comments are exactly what they want.
ugh.
