After watching Heated Rivalry, I was trying to remember what other tv shows/movies I’ve watched that have a theme of closeted professional athletes. I really like how this kind of stories explore how sexuality could affect public image, media pressure, etc.

So far I’ve seen the following shows with similar subplots:

Mario (2018 movie) — two pro soccer players fall for each other. The story is similar to HR but the ending is sad and very realistic.

Hit the Floor — My absolute favorite. NBA player secretly hooks up with his sports agent and eventually falls in love.

Power Book II: Ghost — this show is about dr*g dealers, one of the main characters dates a closeted NBA player and tries to convince him to come out. As soon as they break up, the player comes out on national tv and he realizes the problem was him and not being gay.

Ted Lasso — a soccer player navigating coming out to his teammates.

Would love recommendations for any other shows or movies with similar themes.

In the trailer we can see that Niall becomes a successful author by writing a book The Rising Sun. We can see a man in the handcuffs on the cover, so I assume the book is about Ruben and it probably destroyed Ruben’s life that’s why he beats him up on the wedding. I also think that Niall would be at fault Ruben ended up in jail.

So they were 18 and 20 in 1989, which would make them 54 and 56 during the wedding scenes if it takes place in 2025. Which doesn’t make sense at all. Or does the wedding take place in some other timeframe?

I’m looking to hear from anyone who has gone through I-751 (Removal of Conditions) with a divorce waiver.

My conditional green card was approved last summer, and unfortunately my marriage is falling apart primarily because of my husband’s alcohol abuse. He refuses therapy, treatment, or support groups despite many attempts on my part. I’m realizing that staying in this situation is seriously affecting my mental health, and I’m considering moving out and filing for divorce.

Our marriage was entered into in good faith, and so far I have the following additional evidence after conditional GC approval:

  1. Jointly filed 2025 tax return
  2. Joint bank account with both of our direct deposits
  3. Shared rent and household bills paid through that account
  4. Photos from birthdays, New Year, and events together
  5. My husband on my employer-sponsored health insurance.

For those who filed I-751 with a divorce waiver:
What additional evidence was most helpful for proving bona fide marriage?

Did you include things like affidavits, therapy records, text messages, or any proof of attempts to save the marriage?

What should I realistically expect from the process?

Is an interview almost always required in divorce waiver cases, or were any of you approved without one?

Yes, I will be hiring an immigration attorney but wanted to hear some real life experiences first.
