basically what the title says. I’m a fourth year med student in recovery from an ED. I’m struggling to navigate maintaining regimented eating (6 meals a day as per my dietitian) while on my surgery rotations.
for example today I was asked to scrub into a 9 hour case. I turned to my placement partner and was like when am I supposed to eat lunch and he was like you just don’t. I ended up being let out for a break for lunch but missed my morning snack. I just can’t afford to miss meals because it’s an extremely slippery slope for me and quickly snowballs into relapse (and hospital admissions etc which I don’t have the time for).
I was just wondering if anyone here has experience dealing with this, and any words of advice on how to overcome it (without disclosing my condition to supervisors). I’m also just not surg keen and don’t enjoy theatre in general, so any tips about surviving surgical rotations more generally would also be much appreciated.
edit: ED referring to eating disorder lol
