(18M) Dad offered $10k to quit motorcycles forever. Logically it’s a "steal," but I don’t want to lose my hobby.

I’m looking for some perspective on a major life decision. I’m 18, I live in Alberta, and I’m torn between a massive financial "gift" and a hobby that means a lot to me.

The Background:

My parents are divorced and I don’t live with my father, but we have a good connection. Up until a week ago, he didn’t even know I rode motorcycles. Now that he’s found out, he is extremely worried about my safety.

I’ve been riding for two years. Since I do online school, the bike is my main way to get out and connect with people. I’ve worked really hard for it, and it's one of my main hobbies alongside hunting and fishing.

The Car Situation:

My current daily driver is a Mitsubishi SUV worth about $5,000. The transmission is dying and the catalytic converter was just stolen. I’m expecting a $5,000 insurance write-off.

My Original Plan:

Use the $5k insurance money, add some of my own savings, and borrow a bit more from family (as a loan) to buy a reliable SUV for around $15,000. In this plan, I keep my motorcycle.

The Offer:

My dad made me a deal: If I sell my bike (worth $6,000) and agree to never ride again, he will give me $10,000 cash as a gift.

If I take his deal:

$5,000 (Insurance) + $6,000 (Selling the bike) + $10,000 (Dad's gift) + $11,000 (The loan/savings I already planned on) = $32,000 total.

I could go from a $15k used SUV to a $32,000 vehicle—something much newer, safer, and nicer for Calgary winters—completely debt-free (aside from the small family loan).

The Dilemma:

The Logic: I’m essentially being paid $10k to increase my chances of surviving. It feels logically "stupid" to say no to this.

The Integrity:

Since we don’t live together, I could technically take the money and buy another bike later without him ever knowing. But I’ve operated on a "don't ask, don't tell" basis for two years to avoid conflict—not to be deceptive. If I take $10,000 specifically to stop riding, then go out and buy a bike anyway, I'd be crossing the line into being genuinely dishonorable. If I take this deal, I feel like I have to stick to the "no bikes" rule for good, or I'm betraying his trust.

The "18-Year-Old" Factor:

I’ve been driving for 3 years. Is it even a good idea to have a $32k car at my age?

The Social Loss:

The bike is my main social outlet. Giving it up feels like losing a part of my identity.

The question...

Am I being shortsighted for wanting to keep the bike and stick to a $15k car, or is $10k enough to sign away a lifelong hobby?

UPDATE: Thank you for the replies. I’ll be honest—I was really hoping more of you would side with the bike, but I guess that’s just the "underdeveloped brain" in me talking! Haha. I’ve always known the dangers and I still chose to ride, but seeing the consensus here was the reality check I needed. It’s still heartbreaking to walk away from a hobby I love and worked so hard for, but logically, the money and the safety are a steal. It looks like I’m taking the deal. Thanks for the perspective.

18M looking for people to hike / fish / hang out with.

Hey everyone, I’m 18 and looking for some more people to get outside with. I’m pretty big into fishing and hunting, and I’ve been hitting the trails around here a lot. I usually like doing moderate to hard hikes that don’t take too long, because once I get to the top, I like to bust out an MRE and do some fishing for a while. My favorite spot so far has been Lake Carnarvon; doing that level 4 scrambling was definitely scary, but the fishing was amazing and I’m definitely looking to head back there. I’ve really been wanting to try backpacking and camping too, but I’m a little spooked to go solo for the first time so it'd be cool to find someone down for that. You’d probably need to be relatively fit to keep up with the scrambling and the steeper trails, but nothing too crazy. One thing about me is my hobbies are kind of polar opposites—when I’m not doing "old man" stuff in the woods, I’m usually just watching anime. I don't drink, smoke, or do any drugs, and I’m looking for people who also don't do that stuff. I have my own wheels so I’m happy to drive us to a lake or a trailhead. Gender doesn't really matter and age isn't a big deal as long as you're relatively close to 18 and the vibes are chill. Hit me up if you’re down to grab food or head out to the mountains sometime.

P.S. I’ve actually messaged everyone who made similar posts recently but nobody has responded to me, so here I am making my own post.
