Wanting to read the expanse series but struggled to read the mercy of gods.

As the title said - i am wanting to read the expanse books as I loved the series and also excited about the expanse game

But I struggled reading the mercy of gods and ended up putting it down after about the 2nd chapter. I wasn't a big fan of the writing style and descriptions.

Is the expanse series similar? If i didnt like the mercy of the gods will I struggle with the expanse? Or might not be an issue?
