Congress has the power to stop Trump's slush fund - tell your reps we know it

Trump has now agreed to a settlement with an IRS commissioner he can fire and an acting attorney general who wants a nomination to drop his $10 billion lawsuit in exchange for a $1.7 billion slush fund to "compensate" the henchmen who committed crimes for his benefit. This could include the nearly 1,600 people charged with attacking the Capitol to overturn the results of the election on January 6th.

This is a theft from the American taxpayers, playing out right in the open. The White House is going to use our money to pay off himself and the thugs who committed political violence on his behalf. There will certainly be legal challenges ahead, but as Rep. Jamie Raskin has pointed out Congress has power over spending, which means they can stop it from going forward... and if they don't, it's because their members/leadership are making a choice to allow it. 🗣️ Let’s reach out to our reps and demand they prevent a single penny of our money from being used for Trump’s slump fund. We can find scripts and email language to use here, or text SIGN PMLDMK to 50409 to send this message directly via Resistbot. 🗣️

Consequences | It's Thursday morning in Iowa, and you are waking up to $4.49 gas (up from $4.29)

HOW GREAT DO YOU FEEL AGAIN????

I'm watching farmers plant and prep as I drive by fields and I'm left wondering if they are crying in their cabs. Their inputs are at all time highs, their crops are near zero to monetize, and there's a pack of wolves hoping and scheming so they go bankrupt.

So the reps are making all of this noise about E15, trying to offset the gas price conditions from an illegal war and the tariff impacts they explicitly created.

This is all noise to try to sway votes with garbage fuel types, minimal farmer relief, and a lot of self-fellating social posts from the GOP reps. (Ashley, Chuck, Feenstra, Joni, Kim...whatever else is in that dumpster)

Avg gas price under Biden was 4.06 at peak in 2022 due to Putin invading Ukraine.

Not to be confused with what is happening now, a 60+ day illegal, unnecessary war that cause you all of this pain.

WASHINGTON, May 14 (Reuters) - U.S. import prices surged in April, with the cost of fuels posting the largest increase in four years, ‌another indication that the U.S.-backed war with Iran was boosting inflation.

Import ‌prices increased 1.9% last month after an upwardly revised 0.9% rise in March, the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics said on Thursday. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast import prices, which exclude tariffs, would increase 1.0% after a previously reported 0.8% advance in March.

This Saturday, May 16th, 2026 join 50501 Iowa Coalition in refusing to keep quiet while they strip voting rights from our neighbors in the south.

This is yet another example of Trump and Republicans targeted attacks on the rights of Black Americans. Since the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act, multiple states have modified their districts ahead of their primaries to take away Black Americans equal right to representation. All Roads Lead to the South is calling a national date and we plan to show our support, we hope to see you there too. Meet us at the 1st Avenue Bridge on Mays Island at 1PM!

The Trump administration just released its new Counterterrorism Strategy... and it names Antifa and violent left-wing extremists as a top-tier national security threat, right alongside cartels and Islamist terror groups.

Tonight we break down what that gap means, what the CTS actually says, and what happens when the White House and the IC don't agree, especially for veterans.

And we go inside the Mark Kelly hearing. A 50501 Veterans member was in that courtroom as a federal appeals court weighed whether the Pentagon can strip a retired Navy captain of rank and retirement pay for saying what every service member is taught: you can refuse an illegal order.

This is what it looks like when policy stops being abstract.

Thank you to everyone who came out and joined us on April 26th to honor 88 people who have been murdered by ICE or CBP since January 2025. 2025 was ICE's deadliest year, and 2026 is on track to be even more deadly.

Many people have reported inhumane conditions at concentration camps from California to Texas to Florida. Immigrants detained in these camps are given spoiled food, little water, inadequate medical care, and are abused by officers in these facilities. The conditions reported in these concentration camps are not exaggerated, and they have deadly consequences. On the 26th, we shared the stories of two people with you, Jose Guadalupe Ramos-Solano and Marie Ange Blaise. Both were reportedly denied adequate medical care while in custody, and both of them have died.

Jose Guadalupe Ramos-Solano, was a 52 year old man, husband, and father. In his wife’s words, “he was a good person, dedicated to his kids, and his wife. He was not a criminal, he was a hard worker.” He was detained for over a month, allegedly due to nonviolent crimes that he had already paid the price for. According to official ICE statements, Jose was arrested and charged for minor offenses in May of 2025, which led to ICE targeting him in a raid on February 23rd, 2026. ICE documentation insists that upon his arrival, he was noted to have several health conditions, and that “He received constant medical care while he was in custody, including daily medication to treat his illness.” But on March 25th, 2026, Jose was found unresponsive in his bunk and was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. He may have had some health concerns, but none that could’ve led to his death, unless neglected. It is painfully clear that Jose was not given the medical care that he needed.

Marie Ange Blaise was a 44 year old Haitian woman and mother. She cherished and loved her son and family deeply. Marie had entered the United States without admission or parole. On Feb. 12, U.S. Customs and Border Protection encountered Blaise at the Henry E. Rohlsen International Airport in Saint Croix, U.S Virgin Islands, while she was attempting to board a flight to Charlotte, North Carolina. According to WLRN, “while ICE records blame Blaise for failing to take prescribed blood pressure medication on multiple occasions, her son told Broward investigators that she said she couldn’t get a doctor to see her on the day of her death. Additionally, another detainee told a human rights group that the medical response to Blaise was severely delayed.” Her son also spoke with her on the day of her death. She complained of having chest pains and abdominal cramps, and when she asked the detention staff to see a physician, they refused her. It is very clear that not only did ICE deny her the life saving care that she needed, but they lied about it to cover their tracks.

Please join us again later this month to honor and remember all who have needlessly loss their lives due to ICE and the concentration camps they run.⁩

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/white-house/republicans-propose-1-billion-taxpayer-dollars-secure-trump-ballroom-rcna343637

From the article:

>Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, has released a long-term immigration and border patrol funding bill that includes $1 billion earmarked for security improvements accompanying the overall ballroom project.

This is waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer funds. It is also yet another sad example of the Iowa Congressional delegation bending over backwards to aide and abet these actions.

Remember to vote!
