ThinkPad W530 with Quadro K2000M dGPU has a long history of NVIDIA driver issues on Linux. Basically it boils down to two things:

  1. W530’s Displayport (all of them if you have a dock) only work through the dGPU.
  2. The K2000M never really worked well with 400-series drivers (except 460 on some old kernels).

That said, it actually works with nouveau + vulkan-nouveau on the latest CachyOS (April 2026) using Wayland.

But here’s a thing: the default installer runs chwd -a and installs the 470xx driver, which makes installed system unusable (no video on X11, horrible freezes on Wayland). So after installing you should chroot in from liveUSB, and remove it with chwd -r nvidia-dkms-470xx.prime.

Pls share your experiences with 470xx/prime drivers on mobile Kepler. Maybe it’s possible to get it running better than nouveau lol.
