Myths and truths after completing the game
I have recently completed Days Gone. This game affected me as many others who are on this sub and this post is both an attempt at appreciation as well as a coping mechanism for post Days Gone hangover.
I will list the myths I have encountered both before playing this amazing game as well as during while reading some of the posts and comments here. Feel free to cheer or critize my opinions and add your own myths in the comments.
Myth: Days Gone is mid.
Truth: Days Gone is an amazing game that completely enthralls those who complete it. Days Gone story affected me as much as the coveted E33 and together with added realism as well as a relatable relationship between the characters ... well... it made me teary, which does not happen often.
Myth: motorcycle controls are bad.
Truth: they are awesome. They are a bit floaty and maybe even a touch arcady but that's what makes it FUN. Fun above everything and riding the bike is pure joy in this game. I like accelaration, I like drifting (get it?! I LIKE DRIFTING) and I love hitting stuff while on a bike.
Myth: fighting hordes is the best part of this game.
Truth: I only partially agree with this. The combat overall is extremely enjoyable and I liked the many options provided for us, but to me personally fighting hordes became quite repetitive once the first 5 or 10 were done. Yes, the first 2 hordes were unforgettable, but the rest... I knew what to do and what to expect and thus was rarely surprised by fighting them. Fighting camps is were my enjoyment was at its highest as Deacon's commentary of how he hates robbers and killers made those moments feel very real and visceral. Days Gone story was the best part of the game for me. Music was close second.
Myth: Wizard Island Witch was in the wrong
Truth: I should probably write a separate post in defence of the Wizard Island Witch. *SPOILERS AHEAD*, >!but let me tell you this - she was written in a painfully realistic manner. The unexpectedness of the meeting, her own feeling of guilt and the underlying understanding that the Colonel is a batshit crazy maniac made her initial reaction extremely realistic. I personally had a situation with my wife where I was absent for 5 days and she went through a transformation of her own. When I returned I had to "get to know her again" in a sense, which did not take long as it happened over a weekend, so I could only imagine how that process could look like after 2 years of apocalypse.!<
Myth: this game is like Oregon Trail
Truth: OK... sure... freakers are just like trail blazers with dysentery.
Myth: you can find a game similar to Days Gone
Truth: no way. This is a one of a kind. I have already completed all the games that are suggested to play after Days Gone and none of them could bring about a similar feeling. The only one even remotely close feeling wise would be Horizon Zero Dawn, a game one can also play only ONCE for the first time and I would wish I could forget. Otherwise, we just have to go for NG+ or watch other people's Let's Plays.
Myth: there will be no Days Gone 2
Truth: I refuse to believe it. Worst case we will get either a spiritual successor or someone will bet on Days Gone 2 10 years from now. It may be different from what the original devs intended it to be, but I refuse to live in a world where Days Gone 2 is never happening. >!Deacon believed and so shall I. !<
