What are some compelling arguments you have for teaching extreme horror in college lit courses?

Have you noticed that some literature can be described as extreme, but since it's not labeled as such, it gets a pass?

Would you be willing to take a course that was only extreme horror and how would you contextualize it in the overall literary canon?
