Psychiatrist said “You can’t have ADHD” within 2 minutes of meeting me

Went to a psychiatrist with my parents because I strongly suspected ADHD. I honestly expected at least a proper evaluation or discussion, especially since my 12th CBSE result was only 64% and I’ve been struggling for a long time with focus, procrastination, mental restlessness, etc.

But the appointment lasted barely a few minutes. He didn’t ask much about my childhood, school patterns, daily functioning, or even current symptoms properly. He just said in a cold/rude way that “ADHD is a childhood issue” and that I only have “study stress/anxiety.”said u are not fidgeting how u can have it . Then he prescribed antidepressants.

What confused me more is that his clinic/services literally mention ADHD, yet he seemed to completely dismiss the idea that adults can have it. From what I know, adult ADHD is medically recognized and usually requires a detailed history, not a 2-minute conclusion.

The worst part is that I went hoping a doctor could help my parents understand what I’ve been struggling with, but the appointment did the opposite. Now my parents think I’m just making excuses because of marks.

I’m not saying I definitely have ADHD, but shouldn’t a psychiatrist at least evaluate it properly before dismissing it completely?
