Biostimulants — genuinely useful or just overpriced snake oil? What's the UK take?
The biostimulant market is growing fast globally — seaweed extracts, amino acids, humic substances, microbial products. Regulators are catching up (EU Fertilising Products Regulation finally gave them a proper legal category in 2022), but I keep hearing that uptake in the UK is patchy compared to places like Italy and Spain.
Genuinely curious what people here think:
- Are you using any biostimulant products, and are they actually making a difference to yield or plant health?
- Is the evidence base convincing to you, or does it feel like the science is thin?
- Are UK retailers/agronomists even recommending them, or is awareness low?
- Price sensitivity — what would you actually pay per hectare for a proven product?
