Yuji losing 1v1s are canon events. Denji will win against him because Yuji sucks at 1v1s and is a BUM who constantly needs to be bailed out by others. He has no ounce of actual talent and always needs his jumping buddies to even feel the tiniest sliver of success, which is why as soon as he's alone (See Modulo) he goes full chud mode and leaves a terminally ill teenager to die in a duel he easily could have managed.
