What happened to support builds?
I know I’m probably in the minority here, but I genuinely enjoy playing support while grouping with friends. It was one of my favorite parts of Diablo 3, so I was really happy when D4 finally added functional support builds before the expansion. As of LoH, we basically only have Paladin Aura support left... What happened to Druid and Barb?
Barbarian lost their support unique, Fields of Crimson, and Druid lost their support legendary aspects. To be fair, both classes did retain some supportive-style gameplay through their skill trees, like the Ground Stomp augment for Barb or the Blood Howl augment for Druid, but both still feel like a shadow of what Paladin offers.
Pally gets three auras, Fortress, Consecration, and the Cathan’s Iron Conviction set. I’m not saying Paladin shouldn’t have that many options, just that I wish Barb and Druid had gotten similar treatment.
Before anyone says I should just play Paladin if I want to support, the whole reason I enjoyed support was the variety of different support builds and playstyles. Nowadays, if one of my friends is already supporting the carry, I’m basically out of options, whereas before I could just swap to one of the other support classes. After LoH, playing Barb or Druid support feels awful because it barely feels like I’m contributing anything meaningful to my teammates, so I just end up feeling like dead weight.
I really miss how impactful those support builds felt before the expansion, and I wish they hadn’t gutted them as hard as they did.
TLDR - Please bring back Barb and Druid support builds, Blizz.
Thank you for reading my rant. Also, future support options for Warlock could make for cool gameplay too.
