Just moved out of an apartment after being there for two years and they are charging us about $550 for the remaining two years of the carpets remaining life.

I've seen the horror stories, and know we are probably lucky they didn't jump straight to charging for the entire carpet replacement, but it still feels excessive.

These are the photos they sent after we asked for clarification to the charges.

To clarify, we have photos that show the top of the carpet when we moved out, no damage can be seen.

What do you think? Is this worth pursuing or should we let it go?

Edit for more detail:

We do have a dog and a cat, but they know where to use the bathroom. The only accidents that happened on the carpet (to my knowledge) were mostly spilling drinks, tipping over the water bowl, or cat vomit which was mostly limited to non carpeted areas as the cat prefers to throw up on elevated surfaces for whatever reason. We do have a mini-green machine, which we used to clean up any spills or messes at the time of the incidents.

None of our guests ever complained of smells (maybe out of kindness), so I don't think there was a wall of stench that hit when you walked in. I didn't crawl every inch of the floor, but I did nap/lay on the floor fairly often, and never noticed a pee odor.

These three are the only photos they sent when we asked why we were being charged. The way they took the photos is a bit weird, and makes it difficult to identify where exactly the stains are in each of the rooms. They seem to all be coincidentally near edges/walls or it just appears that way from how they tore up the carpet, which doesn't make sense with how we had the rooms setup.

The property manager stated in the email with the photos that the carpet had been installed roughly 3 months before we moved in, but no actual proof. We didn't think they had given us new carpet based on how dirty the whole unit was upon moving in, but maybe that's all they did to prep. We do have photos from moving in and out.

We would like to thank all of you for reading and telling us your thoughts. We are probably going to reach back out to the property to see if they have any better photos or documentation for the carpet. Thanks again!!!
