First 5k race troubleshooting
Hi everyone. I started running ~9 weeks ago and just ran my first 5k race this morning (yay!) I attached a picture of my two month progress.
The issue is, I actually had to stop and walk for ~30 seconds TWICE during the race. My legs didn’t hurt, so that wasn’t an issue - but I felt like my heart/lungs were suffering BAD. First mile felt fine, but the rest sucked. The race was at 8am in 80 degree weather and 80% humidity. I’m really disappointed that I couldn’t push through the discomfort; I feel like I wimped out.
My questions are: (1) How can i get better at running in heat/humidity like this? (2) How do you mentally push through the pain/discomfort in a race?
