4 weeks post open repair, started WB at 2 weeks out of cast. Can walk ~200m without crutches but my push-off still feels off and I’ve got a bit of a lateral shift going on. For anything outside or unfamiliar terrain I still grab one or two crutches just for peace of mind.

Added complexity: I’m in a Dutch rehab protocol that uses a semi-elastic functional brace rather than a VACOped or rigid boot, so there’s this constant background feeling of “is this enough support” that I suspect some of you won’t relate to but maybe some will.

For those who’ve been there – when did you feel confident enough to ditch the crutches entirely? Was it a specific milestone (distance, confidence on stairs, something your physio said), or more of a gradual “one day I just didn’t grab them” thing?

Not looking for medical advice, just curious about other people’s experience with that mental and physical transition.
