First, I find the use of the word "natty" kind of annoying.
But mainly, football is one of the most team dependent of team sports with so many players on offense, defense and special teams.
A running back is largely only as good as the teams O-line. Cornerbacks need strong D-line play and vice versa. We have seen how mediocre receivers have made things difficult for qb's.
Will Howard may be good one day in the NFL. But winning a "natty" in college is of such minor relevance and actually can be turned around on him. Possibly, Howard had such a strong OSU team around him that he really did not need to be that good.
And last, of course, success in college football is no guarantee of success in the NFL, especially for qb's.
