31E Reserve Experience?

Before people start telling me I picked the wrong MOS and “Guantanamo this” or “Cuba that,” I don’t care. If you were a 31E in the reserves, what was your actual experience like? What did drill weekends usually consist of, how often did you actually do your job, and how was AIT overall?

Thinking about going 31E in the Reserve. What’s it like overall; drills, deployments, day-to-day stuff? Also, is it guaranteed you’d get sent to Guat as a reservist or not really? I’ve been waiting for 31B position to open for a long time and nothing was happening so Im going with 31E and just looking for real insight, thanks.

So when I first started talking to my recruiter, he kept trying to get me to sign for whatever MOS I could get—even before I took the ASVAB. I understand they have quotas, but I’m not trying to rush into a 6-year contract just because of that.

What I actually want is something in law enforcement like 31E, 31B, or 31K (this is for the Reserves). My goal is to eventually work for security companies that prefer military or law enforcement experience.

We did end up reserving 31E with an incentive, and I went through MEPS. Everything was fine except I needed one waiver signed off by a doctor, which took about a week. During that time, the job reservation got dropped. After that, he started pushing me again to just pick any MOS. I didn’t go for it, so now he’s saying he’s gonna try to “pull some strings” to get me one of those MOSs back, but without the incentive—even though it was there before.

He said he’ll let me know Monday.

Does anyone know what he might actually be doing on his end? And any advice on how to handle this like would getting a new less pushy recruiter would make a difference or if it’s basically the same situation everywhere. I’ve considered trying to do the same but in the air force reserve as well to see if i have better luck with my mos there.

I went to MEPS last Friday 4/24 and now I’m kinda stuck waiting.

I passed the drug test and the full medical. The only thing I needed was a waiver for an Adderall prescription. I only refilled it 3 times, but since it was recent they said it had to be approved.

My recruiter had me stay there and wait because he said waivers can get priority if you’re in the building, but it never got approved that day. Now it’s been 5 days and still nothing. Both of us are getting pretty frustrated with the doctors. He told me this doesn’t usually happen but sometimes it does.

Has anyone else gone through this? Is this normal for waiver approvals or could something else be going on? Is there anything I can do to speed it up?

I already had my MOS reserved so now I’m worried it’s going to get taken if this takes too long.

Any advice would help.
