Death (much like in real life) is everywhere in entertainment. Just like in real life, it can also be quick and sudden as hell to the point where you ask yourself “What the hell just happened?”

Here are examples I can think of:

Marko (Saga): Brian K Vaughn is a writer that will take a character that you like and end a story in a way where it just leaves you feeling depressed. This is no different in Saga where he kills off one of the main characters. Putting salt into the wound, the issue he was killed in was just before a four year hiatus.

Optimus Prime (The Transformers: The Movie): Odds are you’ve probably expected this. The leader of the Autobots is killed not even an hour into the film. While it may have lost its initial shock (especially if you’re a Transformers fan where at least one series has to have Prime either die or nearly die), it still shouldn’t take away from the shock of having basically the main character of the franchise being killed off.
