Hi people. About two hours ago, I was diagnosed with my first-ever blood clot in my leg. Just took my first dose of Eliquis, which I'll be taking for the next 3 months.
I'm 50F, have been on BCP for most of the past 25 years, and my OB-GYN has seen no cause to take me off of BCP since (as of a blood test a few months ago), I'm not yet menopausal. However, the physician who referred me for the ultrasound this afternoon (not my usual PCP, who was booked up today), believes this clot was provoked by BCP and that I should stop all hormone pills immediately, and call the OB-GYN ASAP to tell him so.
This leaves me wondering--does this now mean that BCP/HRT is going to be out of the question for me as I approach menopause? (And if BCP were really the culprit, why haven't I had a blood clot before now, after so many years on the pill?) Curious about what other females-of-a-certain-age have experienced. I know this is a conversation to be having with the OB-GYN, but it's Friday evening, and I won't get hold of him until Monday at the earliest.
