Just after a bit of perspective before I start an argument with the letting agents.

I’m an accidental landlord, current tenants left yesterday in line with their notice. I appreciate this is a win.

There is some fair wear and tear in the property, they have been in 3 years and was to be expected.

My main issue is the banister has become detached and has been refitted, really badly. Left holes in the walls and ripped the wallpaper. The other is damage to the plasterwork around the loft hatch. It’s just not credible for this to be accidental damage.
Now the agent has said the banister just fell off and was refitted by the tenant, and it’s not worth the fight to claim the deposit to rectify the damage.

Now my issue is that banisters don’t just fall off, but I don’t want to waste everyone’s time. Is this a fight worth having or do I count my blessings that we got the house back and move on with life?

This is Scotland btw.
