Hi all! I had a great meeting with a lawyer in which she obviously did not make any promises but said she thinks that my case would have a good shot of getting approved through the discretionary grant. Basically, my grandfather was adopted shortly after birth, and his adopted grandfather was Canadian. Making my great-great grandfather Canadian. I have excellent documentation of the whole line and the adoption. The lawyer I spoke with believes we have a case that the exclusion of adoptees is discriminatory and therefore i should press for a “special circumstance” to be granted citizenship by descent. She recommended filing asap and pushing it forward now while it’s still a bit messy and chaotic rather than wait for any lawsuit or constitutional challenge. She quoted me 3000 CAD for the whole process start to finish. I’m mostly wondering if people think this is a viable route, if anyone else is planning on doing this, and if that rate seems reasonable. If this was an ordinary citizenship by descent filing I would do it myself, but since there needs to be affidavits and letters citing course cases etc I think working with a lawyer makes sense. Would appreciate any advice!
