As someone who works with multiple clients who use Microsoft 365 Services, it hurts me when users lose their important data especially onedrive due to not paying attention to licensing and data expiration and even back-end team can not help.
Advise for admin or anyone who manages admin centers
- Please set Retention policy to hold data in any circumstances. This can be removing license from the user or you dont need to use services anymore. This will save so much headache in case you want to come back and check those data.
- If you need onedrive data recovered after 93 days counting from last time the license was removed from the account or expired, raise a case right away within a week as the restoration is still possible within 14 days counting from 93rd day. Otherwise, nothing can be done at all.
