How did normal life skills turn into this

Hi im a TA, at a school where i teach PE and extracuricular athletics to 6-7 year old with the headteacher. i have had this position scince mid october last year and i'm worried, we switched sports as we crossed into the spring term curriculum and over the last month or two i have noticed that the kids are struggling.

we have been running through basic cardio warm ups before the start each session and every time the kids look at me like i asked them to do the impossible and its shocking. last week however is what drove it home, the kids do not know how to skip. Both, with and without a skipping rope

which is bad on its own.

But the thing is, it's not just skipping. Its hopping, jumping, sidestepping, throwing and catching. they can't do any of these skills. and these are skills learnt through playing and being active. the only skills they have are walking and running full sprint with no inbetween, its like they never played around or exsplored how they can move in anyother way.

i commented on this to the headteacher who was as shocked as i was, she mentioned that she knew the tecnology situation was bad due most children having more screen time than actuall physical playtime at this point but she never exspected it to get to the point of them being unable to do basic excersises.

does anyone have any advise on any thing i can do.
