What makes a plate carrier “load bearing”

What makes a plate carrier good for load bearing?

Right now I’m running a Javlin A-JAC, which is marketed as the most comfortable plate carrier on the market - and I believe it. It’s just two simple, top-loading plate bags, and I have a rigid cummerbund that hugs it close to my body.

People say the A-JAC doesn’t do good when loaded up, which I haven’t found to be true at all. Recently I even slapped a pair of AXL shoulder pads on them and it’s been even better for me.

So what makes a plate carrier one that is good at holding weight?

I’ve used everything on duty from an IOTV to a JPC and a K19 and I’ve found that this thin and simple piece of laminate that is the A-JAC is the best so far.

I’m only asking because my job is giving me money to spend on gear and they recommend something that can “hold weight” well, like a Shaw carrier or even an LV-120

- but I can’t justify spending my budget on either of those great carriers, when my Javlin is already meeting my needs.

I’m just interested in hearing all of your thoughts and opinions on the subject. Thanks, guys
