Monad Node Experiment

In spirit of my post a week or so ago and u/billmondays encouraging that I continue posting my experience, here it is.

https://github.com/aurous37-lang/Monad-Node-Experiment

In my repo I walk through set up, differences between a pruned node, full archive node, and validator nodes. I cover the benefits of having a pruned node for high volume trading and other tooling. You will also find reports covering my system specs, system utilization/stress. Updates to configurations on the days they occurred and why.

This is my 2nd time setting up this node and I'm still trying optimize things after making a mess of my system swapping back from BASE. In the reports you will see failed attempts and error messages. This is to be expected as I dial things in (when I have time as I'm just a hobbyist) and collect further reported data.

If you run this setup, I recommend setting up scripts to auto generate reports a few times a day. This is not a replacement for full blockchain infrastructure. But if you are a frequent on-chain user...this is an absolute no-brainer. **Make sure thermals are well taken care of**

I tried to make the instructions as beginner friendly as possible while also retaining technically usable information I've collected for other operators and developers to benefit from.

Feel free to follow my repo. I'll be pushing tools I build out as I refine my workflows.

Hope this helps/inspires some of you to become more active on chain. This is an awesome moment in time to finally have some true agency over your finances. As the crypto space matures, so should our perspective regarding our financial safety and longevity.

About 2 months ago I started running a pruned MON node. As a test I have been running it on a MinisForum 8-core AMD (only running on physical cores), 48gb DDR5, and a fast 2TB NVMe.

Even underspeced CPU wise, the node has ran amazing with no hiccups.

I then started trading a bunch of volatile stuff on BASE and decided accurate and timely feed was more needed. My miniPC meets the requirements for running a pruned BASE node.

After 2 days of corrupted installs due to compression/decompression issues I finally got it to work. Fast-forward another 2.5 days and the node never finished state sync.

Frustrated, I said "fuck this" and went back to the Monad node. I got the node reconfigured and set back up within 30ish minutes and went to bed. Woke up to find it was fully synced up not too long after I went to sleep.

I understand the need for heavy specs for large infrastructure...but the sheer fact that this node runs flawlessly on a little less than half of the "minimum" CPU requirements is a MAJOR testament to how efficient the devs have made their system.

Just posting this because most on-chain users only really get to experience the efficiency from the transaction side of things and I think this has been a valuable experiment and experience for my own conviction.

Thanks Monad Team!
