new guitar is extremely bright
tl;dr want a warmer tone on my FG800. what's the first thing I should change?
I'll start by saying that up until now I've been using a classical guitar, so of course a steel string will sound brighter. but to my ears it's pretty unpleasant.
I'm wondering what changes I could make that would have the most impact. some suggestions I'm seeing are phosphor bronze or silk and steel strings, bone saddle and nut, swapping bridge pins or using a softer pick (I haven't figured out how to use a pick yet, so that's N/A). also I've heard of guitars needing to "open up" over time but I'm not sure exactly what that means. I'd rather not make a ton of changes all at once, so what are the one or two most important things to start with?
it sounds like silk strings might be the move but I'm seeing silk & steel, bronze, phosphor. I have a few options here and just would like some guidance on where to start.
