My female lovebird is rejecting her babies
Peach faced mango female, laid a clutch of 5 eggs. First sign of trouble was when a newborn dropped out of her nest and was found at the bottom of the cage. Thankfully it was still alive and we replaced it in the nest, but she did not seem to care.
A few days later, she was found pushing her unhatched eggs out of the nest. Replaced it in the nest (it was not broken) and she repeated it again. Then yesterday we counted the eggs and babies and there was one missing. On closer inspection, it was found dead at the bottom of the cage. It was tiny and likely less than 48 hours after hatching.
So now there are 3 unhatched eggs and 1 baby that appears to be growing well, so probably still being fed. The mother had 2 previous clutches before where nothing dramatic happened, just that she would not feed any more than 4 babies so any that hatched after that would die. What is the cause of this behaviour. Is there something i can do, or is it personality related, like how some women are just irresponsible as mothers?
