I am working on a new PC build and am struggling to spec my GPU. On one hand, I see lots of comments about only using SW certified gpus. On the other hand, consumer gaming gpus are cheaper for better performance. Some folks say that the SW approved gpus are more stable and more durable and that it's important to keep the drivers up to date. Others say never update the drivers!

What would you get in the sub-$1000 range?
