I've been trying to get better at them these last few month but I feel like I still don't "get" them as a puzzle. I usually think of puzzles as something always solvable just with reasoning skills, and a lot of crossword clues do feel like that and they can be really satisfying for that reason. But then theres crossword clues that just sorta feel like trivia questions for lack of a better word, where if I'm not lucky enough to get clues that let me effectively solve it as part of filling in other words, it just becomes an "either you know it or you don't" situation. Am I misunderstanding crosswords or is that just unavoidably part of what they are?
