Language Question?

Young adult student from (I'm pretty sure) India. Writes good English. Speaks what I assume is good Indian English, but it's very, very fast and very different from my (U.S.) English. To the point I often can't understand. (And I'm reasonably linguistically aware.)

This is a problem. It would be bad enough if it were a case of a student who needed to work on their spoken English skills, but I would have some idea how to have that conversation. But this person seems to speak very fluent English. Just not in a way that I can understand it.

(As I assume most of you know, Indian English can sometimes be very different from other varieties.)

Any advice on how to handle this? I want to be kind and respectful, but having a student I can't understand is not a tenable situation.

Buenas noches. Alguien sabe si la Zona Arqueológica de Mayapán está abierta ahora (finales de abril del 2026)? Sé que estuvo cerrada mucho tiempo por conflictos con los habitantes de la zona. Gracias.
