Just finished Talons of Horus. Overall pretty good book though a bit slow paced at times. Went in expecting more focus on Abaddon and the origin of The Black Legion, but only really got that during the last 30% of the book. Though instead the book is from the perspective of a cool thousand son sorcerer named Khayon who teams up with other various chaos marines to stop the emperor’s children from cloning Horus and eventually runs into Abaddon while looking for his ship, The Vengeful Spirit. While there was some cool lore and action, my favorite aspect of this book was all the characters, their banter, and their moments of bonding (especially Khayon, his daemon wolf Gyre and his dark eldar huntress Nefertari). I will admit there are points (especially around the middle) where the book does drag on a bit and gets kinda uneventful. Though even then the well written characters kept me invested. I assume this first book is meant to be more set up for our cast so Im definitely interested to see book 2 really go deeper into the Rise of Abaddon and the Black Legion. Feelings on this book might change after I read Black Legion but for now Id give this a 7/10
