My grandma's pool keeps turning green so the Hayward salt system obviously isn't working correctly. The control box shows "generating" but also "check salt" and "check cell". The salt ppm displayed is low but when I have the water tested at the pool company, they say the level is fine. The cell was replaced a year ago. The control box however is 15 years old and she lives close to the beach and corrosion of anything electrical outside is a constant issue so I suspect a corroded connector although the pins inside look OK best as I can tell and I've already tried some good contact cleaner. To complicate things, I live 90 minutes from Granny, and the nearest pool place is another 60 min away.

So first off, I'm gonna buy a water test kit. Any suggestions for which one? And as I understand it, I should be able to bypass the flow sensor, place the cell in a 5 gallon bucket, and see [chlorine gas] bubbles if it is working. And it looks as if it will be more cost effective to replace the entire system than to replace the board in the controller.

Any further suggestions? It's a small 10K gallon in ground fiberglass pool. In Florida. With a solar and gas heaters if that makes a difference.
