Bear NPC

Bear NPC

I am intrigued by the idea of 'neutral' creatures, despite how poorly they work with the rules of MTG. This proof concept works comparatively OK by virtue of simplicity; the player has some built in edge (takes 1 less damage, is green and has ramp+big blockers) and I like the flavor. I'm just not sure there's a cost where you would actually want to play it, but wouldn't feel bad from an opponent playing it. Food for thought.

The name is from the old joke that when a bear chases you and your friend, you don't need to outrun the bear, only your friend.

Goblin-flavored combo-only red removal

This exists solely to justify the flavor text. But to give balancing a shot, my primary reference was [[Crushing Pain]]. It's definitely bending red's color identity not to bound the damage, in games I play 6 means "the rest of it's health" 90% of the time, so it felt fair. But I don't play competitively.

I was pleased to discover +1/+1 counters actually are Simic, I was just going to do this anyways for the flavor joke.

The Scooby gang gets done fairly often but I don't think I've seen the "unmasking" angle before.
