Trying to help a friend find a good employment lawyer to take on their case and not sure how to go about it.

You can obviously ring one of the bigger high street firms, but how does that actually compare to a smaller local practice? My sense is it depends massively on the individual solicitor rather than the firm itself, is that right?

For someone looking around the £500/hr mark, how do you actually find someone who’s genuinely great rather than just expensive? Word of mouth, Legal 500, Chambers, something else?

Any advice appreciated.
