Are egomaniacal that common in our offices?
Hello,
I would like to hear your experiences and more than that, ways of dealing with ego maniacs in the office? Is this really common or am I overreacting?
We have 5 departments and around 100 people that work here. I'm a structural engineer, and at the same time I am doing my PhD in advanced numerical modeling.
My manager is great, and he "got" me a gig with others department head. Ego maniac, rude, loud guy that yells at the girls that work for him, once a month someone cries there. But, his favorite is this girl, replica of him, a structural engineer 5 years older than me. I am licensed, she is not. We are at the same level.
He knows i am doing the PhD, and my mentor is director of the company - professor and best in numerics here. He goes and in front of his office says to this girl - you will give him orders. Then at the end of the talk, he asks, does he know how to do this? Mind you, the thing i need to do is numerical modeling, which whole company knows i do, at which level, and who's my mentor for the last 6 years.
What is this? And why? Is this my mistake, should I just stress people over contiuum theory, gaus integration points, plasticity theory, calculation algorithms??? As in, this is not Autocad, let's see what you really understand is being calculated?
It's not the end of the world, but these disses, questions, and similar bullshit are something I see around the office all the time? Is this common?
Sorry, I am venting. I love what I do, I try to connect practical and theoretical side, and people say I do it well. But why are these cancer like people in the driving seat again?
