Hello,

Looking for some help with a recent garden design. Both gardens are meant to go along either side of my house. It is well draining soil that receives ~2-6 hours of sunlight. Right side (picture 1) receives closer to the 6 hours of sunlight. Left side (picture 2) receives ~6 hours in the front half and closer to 2-4 hours for the back half.

The two current locations are dead zones on either side of the house between our house and our neighbor’s house. They do not offer much as living area so would like to convert the areas to make them more attractive while still promoting wildlife in an otherwise newly-built HOA-controlled wildlife diversity dead zone. The hope is that all of the plants used have a more tame growth pattern that would be acceptable to an HOA, while still being attractive to hopefully convince others in the neighborhood to add more native plants to their builder-grade landscapes.

The right side of the home (picture 1) features a wider side yard and greater angle of visibility from the street as cars and walkers pass by.

The left side of the home (picture 2) was created to utilize the minimal width of the side-yard without imposing into the neighbor’s yard. The more visible front-half of the side yard features plants chosen to be more showy and feature blooms throughout the entire growing season. The back-half is designed to offer food to the native birds in the food desert.

One deviation from the pictures is the “Carolina Holly” is actually Inkberry Holly.
