TL;DR: how to get my money out

My benefit plan year is Jan-Dec, same as the calendar year. I elected to have $2000 placed into my Dependent Care FSA for 2026. I'm resigning from my job, effective 6/1/26. HOWEVER, my son doesn't start summer camp until 7/1. My HR benefits rep is saying that i'm going to have to forfeit the money, since I won't be able to request reimbursement in August, once the camp is complete, since I will no longer be an employee then.

THIS IS MY MONEY! How do people get their money out of these accounts if they have to unexpectedly leave the job?
