GATE IQ Test Commentary
Disclaimer here, I don't put much stock in IQ tests at all. I scored high-ish but looking at how my life has panned out, you wouldn't think this was true. Life has been a constant trainwreck for decades now.
That being said, my parents recently gave me a stack of papers from when I was a kid and the IQ test that got me into GATE was in them. I had never actually seen this before and was shocked when I read the commentary on the second page. This was 1991 and they were trying to say I had attention deficit disorder. I can remember taking this test back then and I was just a normal 3rd grader who had trouble sitting still. I was excited because I thought the test was fun and the lady was fun to interact with. I had no idea this would be interpreted as ADD. It was even more unexpected because she was saying in the first paragraph how I was doing well and then launched into how distractible I was. Isn't this just being a normal third grader? Or was there some kind of agenda at play?
Does anyone else have something like this in their record? I started GATE in 3rd grade. I tried Ritalin at some point as a teenager but stopped pretty quickly. I don't know if I actually had ADD or they were just trying to push pills on as many kids as possible. I remember the pink drink. I remember taking a bus every Wednesday to a different school where my memories become fuzzy. I have a forehead scar from when I was a baby, never learned where it came from. I remember the headphones and monitoring equipment. I remember flashcards where you would guess what is on the backside of the cards. Certain smells in elementary schools will trigger a cascade of disjunct memories.
